Dancing Deputies Tradition Continues

Wilma Campbell, former owner of Campbell Dance Studio, founded the Dancing Deputies in 1975. Lori Baum, daughter of Wilma Campbell and the current owner of Campbell Dance Studio, is now the choreographer and instructor of the nine-member dance team. The group has been delighting audiences at various local events and will perform nightly at the Frontier Days Saloon on Sept. 6-9. After the parade, the Dancing Deputies will be joining other Campbell Dance Studio dancers as a part of the children's entertainment on Lovett Street downtown. This year marks the 32nd year that Campbell Dance Studio has participated in the Charlotte Frontier Day's celebration, and Baum takes great pride in carrying on the tradition that her mother started. The 2006 members of the Dancing Deputies are:  Terri Cicorelli is the vice president of the family-owned Frankıs Food Mart, the treasurer for the Frontier Days Board, and the mother of two daughters. She began her deputy career in 1986. She always wanted to take lessons as a little girl, and continues to fulfill her dream as a dancer as an adult!

The Dancing Deputies Front Row:
Denise Dahlgren, Melissa Foster
Middle Row:
Sharla Piepkow, Holly Baum
Back Row:
Aymie Quimby, Lexie Balch, Lisa Dickinson, Lori Baum, Terri Cicorelli, Corrie Long

Lisa Dickinson is "Mom" to two boys and a girl. She is a nail technician at Flamingo Tanning & Nails and became a deputy in 1994. One of Dickinsonıs favorite dance memories is when she danced to the Yellow Submarine!  Denise Dahlgren, mother of two daughters, started with the group in 1997. One of her best stories is when she answered the door while forgetting that she still had her feather headpiece in her hair!  Corrie Long has been a deputy since 1998, but has danced since very young. She loves to organize things and shop and is the queen of knowing something about everything!

Sharla Piepkow, has a daughter and son and is employed by Jackson National Life. Piepkowıs first year as a deputy was 2001, and although her capabilities have grown as a dancer...she hasnıt gotten any taller!  Alicia Britton is employed by MSU as a microbiologist. Britton started dancing when she was three years old and her feet just haven't stopped! She officially became a dancing deputy in 2003.  Melissa Foster has been with the group since 2004, and that has been with two active young boys. She has been active with the Relay for Life and Frontier Days Board for several years as well. Foster is employed by Securities America as an executive sales assistant.

Mandy Smith is the rookie, and will be dancing for the second time this year with the group. She is a college student at Lansing Community College and is employed at the Happy Elephant.  Lori Baum is mother of two sons and one daughter, the Campbell Dance Studio owner and choreographer and the instructor of the Dancing Deputies. She is extremely proud of her dancing "³step-sisters," and loves being able to contribute to the hometown festival! The deputies are thankful for their wonderful sponsors who have been a huge part of their success: Eaton Federal Bank (30-year sponsor), Wildernıs Drug Store (17-year sponsor), Franks Food Mart (17-year sponsor), Parker Built Homes (15-year sponsor), The Ski Loft (2006 Grand Marshals, 14-year sponsor), Flamingo Tanning & Nails (13-year sponsor), Charlotte Lithograph (13-year sponsor), Silk Screen Stuff (10-year sponsor), Skyline Design & Structuring, Inc.
